A fresh harvest of Guji coffee from Shakisso. Shakisso is a region named after a town of the same name in southern Ethiopia. Coffees that are classified as ‘Gujis’, originate from the ‘woreda’ of Adoola Redi, Uraga, Kercha, Bule Hora, and Shakisso. As with most of Ethiopia, agriculture and services are the main form of income for the people, and travelling around the Shakisso region really highlights it. Every small Oromo hut has a fenced off area growing fava beans, maize, bananas, and coffee. This is the reason Ethiopian coffees are also referred to as garden coffees. The coffee crop from all these small gardens are taken to the central washing station in Shakisso Town. We have featured this coffee from previous harvests and this year it is popping with flavour again.
